BioSpot
is a new and privately-owned US-based company, and brings together
world-class expertise in the design, manufacture and marketing of
collection devices designed to hold bio-samples dried on media.
These bio-samples typically include blood,
buccal or urine.
The Market Need
The current and emerging markets that are embracing the
use of dried samples on media
(see
Recent Research)
require reliable systems that work effectively… all the way from collection to
automated processing. Some also require high throughput. Applications for
BioSpot’s
products range from forensics and other human identity requirements,
to drug discovery and molecular diagnostics.
Prior to the establishment of BioSpot, the available
processes for collecting and handling dried bio-samples were problematic, and
not especially suited for automation.
The BioSpot Solution
BioSpot’s answer
has been to work with partner companies, so as to be
at the forefront in the development of complete systems, that are
both innovative and seamless, for collecting, transporting, storing
and processing dried bio-samples. BioSpot’s systems are based on new
devices include the
BioDisk,
VibraSwab,
and
SwabGrip.
As an integral part of that solution, BioSpot has
partnered with BSD Robotics—the world leader in the automated
handling and punching of dried samples on media. BioSpot & BSD staff
have worked closely from the outset, to ensure that all BioSpot
products can be handled and processed automatically or
semi-automatically, to achieve high throughput outcomes where
necessary.
Under the heading “
Automated Processing”
we have set out examples of the ways in which BioSpot products can
be integrated into systems incorporating proven BSD Instruments.
Amongst other things, BioSpot has established a
production plant in South Carolina with clean room facilities, to
produce its range of new and innovative collection devices.
